Tourist Guide

As a city, Liverpool is diverse, energetic and exciting: from celebrating Liverpool's 800th birthday in 2007 to being the European Capital of Culture in 2008; football to festivals; music to maritime; clubs to cuisine.

We really think there's something for everyone here!

Liverpool - The place to be!

2008 was a spectacle of events as Liverpool celebrated its European Capital of Culture status.

Liverpool is a fabulous location to visit this year with the major new developments taking place such as the new Liverpool Echo Arena , Liverpool One and the Cruise Liner landing point at the Pier Head. Or if history is your thing, then Liverpool is blessed with a thriving maritime history as well as all of the cultural aspects of the city.

Go Superlambananas

Up to 100, 180cm-tall Superlambananas, one of Liverpool’s most iconic and best-loved pieces of public art – originally, created by Taro Chiezo for Arts Transpennine in 1998 have been painted, decorated and adorned by local and regional artists, community groups and celebrities.

The Go Superlambanana sculpture has been specially designed to act as a 3-D canvas to showcase the creativity of Liverpool.
After the event many of the Superlambananas were sold at a charity auction with a significant percentage of the proceeds going to local charities.

Gustav Klimt

“Bringing the Bling to Liverpool’s Big year” is the description some have already given to the first comprehensive exhibition of Gustav Klimt’s work ever staged in the UK. Whether it’s the idea of bling or Klimt’s extraordinary skill that attracts you, this is a chance to see work by one of the world’s most influential artists at the Tate Liverpool.
The exhibition explores Klimt’s role as the founder and leader of the Viennese Secession, a progressive group of artists. This is a “don’t miss” chance to see major paintings and drawings from all stages of Klimt’s career.
